What does my server/webspace need?
a database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, etc.)
a script language (PHP, Perl, ASP, etc.)
A very popular combination is PHP and MySQL, however, you have to keep in mind that most hosters run PHP in the Safemode. This deprives us of any efficient way of automatically updating the data, though, as PHP is far too limited in this set up.
Why doesn't it work in the Safemode?
direct system commands via system() are disabled
access to removed files is prevented
